Meet the Judges

Both a playful and polemical poet, Devlin is famed for ‘the biggest vocabulary in grime’. Signed to Island Records in early 2010 after a five-label bidding war, his debut album ‘bud, sweat & beers’ is a musical and lyrical state-of-the-art landmark, Devlin’s worldview beamed through the prism of pioneering producers and beguiling female vocalists, including Lewi White, Naughty Boy, Future Cut and Yasmin.

A&R Manager at Island Records. Signing Tinchy Stryder in 2008 (who went on to release the best selling single of that year by a solo male) signaled the start of Scarr’s step up the ladder. Since then he has signed Wiley, Devlin and most recently a young R&B singer by the name of Angel. He also consults for Island’s US counterpart Universal Motown across all their UK releases; Lil Wayne, Drake, Nelly & Common to name but a few.

A former columnist with thelondonpaper, Chantelle Fiddy has written for a host of publications including RWD, Mixmag, Dazed+Confused, i-D, SuperSuper, Sunday Times Style, The Guardian and Smash Hits (RIP). Music is a great way of expressing how you feel through lyrics.

It’s also a good way of getting things off your chest and can help you cope better with difficult emotions. However, if you are having a tough time and you just want to speak to somebody, you can. Whatever your worry, it’s better out than in.
